Hi, I am Chichi...

Hi, I am Pavandip...

Hi, I am Pavandeep (aka Pav). I am the dedicated dhol player for Apna Punjabi Virsa. I have been playing dhol since the young age of 12 as part of the dhol group AVD (Apna Virsa Dholiz) where I learned to play dhol under my ustad - Rupinder Kaur Sandhu, thus allowing me to perform at many prestigious events such as Kelvingrove Park Mela, City Halls and The City Chambers. I have always been a keen lover of bhangra music which has now led me to establish my own dhol group.

Hi, I am Anuj. I started bhangra in 2010 whilst at University with Edinburgh Bhangra Crew. I then went on to captain & teach the team both bhangra dance and dhol drumming, where we did just under 20 different performances in the academic year including weddings, charity fundraisers, video shoots, etc. I decided to enter the team in our first ever national competition in London - Capital Bhangra. This was a great experience and proved to be a vital platform for the development of the bhangra team. I too had been part of Punjabi No.1 dance group in Glasgow, whilst captaining my University team in Edinburgh, and performed at the Brit Asia Music Awards at the Hammersmith Apollo.

After graduating in Edinburgh I returned to Glasgow and, with little to no opportunities available in the city, I decided to start up "Apna Punjabi Virsa" in 2012 and offer the only bhangra classes available for the public to learn. I have had the privilege to have taught and danced with so many wonderful people and have been part of many great performances including sharing a stage with Bee-2, JK, Jazzy B, Juggy D, Superwoman, Sona Walia, etc, as well as judging the auditions for Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur MIT College bhangra team in India. Every UK bhangra competition I have been involved in, either competing, assisting backstage or spectating, simply because I am incredibly passionate about Punjabi folk dancing.

My hopes are for more people to embrace bhangra, support this art & culture, and enjoy it as much as I have!

Hi, I am Ruchika...

Hi, I am Nikki. A regular performer with Apna Punjabi Virsa. I began learning bhangra in 2012 with the University of Edinburgh and immediately fell in love with it. I enjoy taking part in performances at community events, melas and even weddings. After Anuj and I became close friends from this bhangra group, I became more involved with APV and enjoyed learning different styles of moves and hearing new songs. I am one of the most experienced and passionate female bhangra dancers Scotland has ever seen and I plan on continuing. Even after doing bhangra for a few years I still get so excited going to classes and having a great work out and at performances where I can get dressed up and meet lots of lovely new people.
